CompUSA, the electronics retailer owned by Carlos Slim, will shut down after 23 years due to competition from Best Buy Co., Circuit City and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

CompUSA is trying to finish its stock as soon as possible to close down by the U.S. holidays. Gordon Brothers bought the chain for an undisclosed amount and are soon going to sell the 103 stores across USA. “An orderly and expedited wind-down and asset sale process is the best option for CompUSA and its creditors at this juncture,” Bill Weinstein, a principal at Gordon Brothers, said in a statement.
During the third quarter of 2007, the company reported a loss of 494.89 Mexican pesos ($45.7 million) on revenue of 4.6 billion Mexican pesos. The company also reported losses the previous two fiscal years.
